Air Supported Structures
Pressurised or air supported structures provide excellent temporary covers for sports and recreational areas. Acting as self contained operational sports facility or simply as protection against the elements; air supported structures offer flexibility and cost efficiency. The structures derive their structural integrity from the use of internal pressurised air to inflate a fabric envelope. Constant pressure is provided by fan systems which maintain a slightly greater internal pressure than that of the outside external pressure. This provides a highly efficient inflated system which requires little power consumption to maintain inflation.
Air supported structures also cope with wind loads better than most air inflated structures, which require constant internal pressure between the buildings double skinned walls to maintain inflation.
Shade Sculpture has designed and built numerous air supported structures, from stand alone dome structures covering five tennis courts, through to smaller twenty meter event domes.
