Elevating Interior Design and Functionality: Custom Tensile Sails for BP

Installation of interior sun sails BP

Airsculpt takes pride in our ability to bring unique concepts to reality using our experience in tensile architecture. Recently, we completed an interior sails project for BP’s Sunbury office in collaboration with Valley Blinds, showcasing our design and engineering skills. The project entailed designing, building, and installing bespoke tensile sails that revolutionized the area and combined aesthetic appeal with useful features like lowering heat and sunshine exposure.

Project Overview

When Valley Blinds hired us to transform BP Sunbury corporate office, our team’s goal was to create an interior sail installation that would be both aesthetically pleasing and functionally necessary. The workplace was flooded with natural light thanks to the large, floor-to-ceiling windows, but there were drawbacks as well, such too much sunlight and internal heat accumulation. Our goal was to design a shading solution that would solve these problems and blend in with the office’s polished, modern design.

As a consequence, a set of specially made interior sails with distinctive clamps were added, combining style and functionality. This installation improved the area and gave BP’s Sunbury office a contemporary, dynamic touch that satisfied both practical and decorative needs.

The Design Process

At the core of this project was a rigorous design approach that was intended to accomplish BP’s two objectives: sun control and design enhancement. We created a solution from the ground up that was especially suited to the design of the office. Everything was chosen with care to blend in with the existing area, including the materials and the sails’ color and shape. One distinguishing feature of this project was the development of special clamps built exclusively for this installation. These clamps were designed to firmly tie the sails to the window frames while maintaining the visual flow of the design.

Working closely with Valley Blinds, we selected materials that allowed the sails to filter light gently, creating a soft, diffused glow throughout the space. This partnership demonstrated our dedication to personalization and precision, with every aspect meeting BP’s criteria and improving the office’s visual attractiveness.

Challenges and Solutions

This installation, like any large-scale architectural endeavor, presents its own set of obstacles. The large windows gave stunning vistas, but also necessitated a solution that would reduce heat without completely obstructing natural light. Too much shade would make the room feel walled off, while too little would fail to handle the heat and sunshine concerns.

For the sails, we selected a fabric that has just the appropriate amount of transparency. By blocking direct sunlight, this material lowers heat and glare while letting in gentle natural light, keeping the office feeling airy and light. In order to overcome these obstacles and make sure that every element of the design improved the office’s use and beauty, our tensile architectural consulting and engineering experience were essential.

Fabrication and Installation

Our focus shifted to the manufacturing and installation of the unique pieces when the design process was finished. High levels of expertise were needed during the production process to guarantee that every sail and clamp fulfilled our exacting quality requirements.

The tensile sails were safely supported by the specially designed clamps. Our crew made sure that every sail was precisely tensioned and aligned during installation to provide a faultless appearance. Through this installation, the windows were turned into a sophisticated feature wall that provided much-needed sun control and contrasted sharply with the surrounding greenery.

Functionality and Benefits of the Interior Sails

The interior sails are not only visually appealing, but also provide a functional answer to some of BP’s most serious interior challenges. By blocking direct sunlight, they produce a cooler indoor climate, lowering the demand for air conditioning and helping to decreased energy use. This configuration promotes employee comfort, resulting in a more productive work atmosphere.

Furthermore, the sails’ visual appeal complements the office’s design language, providing a professional yet pleasant ambiance. This project highlights how architectural solutions may be adjusted to satisfy both practical needs and esthetic preferences, so improving the entire workplace experience.
