The benefits of fabric buildings.

The focal point for this post will be in response to the frequently asked question, “What are the Benefits of Fabric Buildings?” We shall answer this question by breaking down the features of fabric buildings, as well as how each feature poses certain benefits, over the use of traditional materials.

It is worthwhile however, to bear in mind the primary purpose of your building and how these features will prove both cost-effective and useful in your particular case.  Keep in mind the main use of your new building and the ways in which you may be able to take advantage of the various benefits that a fabric building has to offer.

Artificial Light Sources Become Substantially Redundant as Natural Daylight Proves Sufficient.

Fabric Buildings are Brighter, Quieter and Engineered to Code

Perhaps one of the most acknowledged benefits of fabric buildings is the access to completely natural lighting. Conventional buildings made out of brick and stone suffer from serious natural light loss, meaning that artificial light must be used instead, otherwise the conditions inside would prove inadequate for work. Our fabric buildings are translucent, allowing for natural daylight to fully illuminate the building and, therefore, you can save drastically on the amount of electricity you’re using on a day to day basis. What does this mean for you? Essentially, one of the chief costs of upkeep (electricity) is being reduced significantly, allowing for you to save huge amounts each year, which can be then spent on other (more demanding) factors.

“The requirements in terms of artificial light are far less than that of conventional buildings. Despite having significantly fewer lights, our fabric built buildings have lighter per-candle-foot and lighting can be operated for only a fraction of the time needed in other buildings.”

Fabric Buildings are Quieter

We could not compile the benefits of fabric buildings, without mentioning just how much quieter and effective at noise reduction they are in comparison to conventional buildings. This comes as a direct result of the high sloped, soft fabric surfaces, which provide a quiet yet perfectly audible atmosphere. Our buildings are engineered as such that unwanted sound is dampened dramatically and yet, a perfect ambience is maintained.

Nuisances such as excessive reverberation and echoing, which are all too common in large conventionally built buildings, are close to eliminated. So, regardless of whether you are hosting a party for your family and friends, or performing in front of an audience, our buildings will allow your sound to be clear, crisp and well received. On the other hand, buildings constructed out of conventional materials such as steel or wood, generally require sound insulation to be installed, which is not only an additional extravagance, but also extra unwanted hassle.

Engineered and Built to the current International Building Code . . .

Milestones Fabric Buildings are Built per IBC Code for the Building’s Location.

A certified engineer uses the IBC (International Building Code) to create impervious designs for our fabric buildings, based on factors such as, the location, intended purpose of the building (HVAC, fans, conveyors, etc.) and projected occupancy rating. Other factors considered revolve around the expected weather and the level of seismic activity in your area.

Upon completing an extensive evaluation on the location and other important factors, the engineer then ensures that he uses appropriate loading, in order to guarantee that the building is going to be fit for use in your region and intended use. These confirmations are fundamental for both the creation and support of a suitable foundation in addition to obtaining a building authorisation for the fabric building.

Building Code Compliance

It is unfortunate, but in reality not all building manufactures respect, acknowledge and comply with the standards set by the IBC. Something that is crucial when constructing and handling an effective and ecological building model. In the past, there have been a series of serious failures from several reputable manufacturers, meaning that these forms of ‘hiccups’ are in no way exclusive to just the start-up companies. In the effort to cut corners where possible and hence improve their chances of landing a sale, many otherwise reputable building manufacturers deviate from the standards set by the IBC.

We appreciate the importance of following the standards set by the International Building Code. It is for this reason, alongside our continued strive to provide maximum customer satisfaction through the benefits of fabric buildings, that our engineers are well versed in strictly following the building practices outlined. Ultimately, this allows us to build structures that provide all of the benefits of fabric buildings, including peace of mind. No longer will questions such as whether the fabric building you’re considering meet the latest building code standards occupy your mind. Milestones Building and Design not only ensure that all operating engineers are kept up to date with the latest changes to the code, but also the specific rules and regulations within your specific area.
