Multi Conical Tensile Canopy Contract Awarded

Multi Conical Tensile Canopy Contact Awarded to Shade Sculpture – Shade Sculpture has this week been awarded to the contact to design and install three bespoke tensile fabric canopies at the prestigious Loftus Way Care Home in London. Designed to unify the connections between three buildings, the canopies will consist of a 175m² main horse shoe shaped multi conical canopy walkway with two separate connecting entrance canopies that overlap.

Horse Shoe Tensile Canopy Walkway

Shade Sculptures’ winning design consists of architectural steel framework with integrated drainage systems to rapidly disperse and drain large volumes of rain water.  Additionally the design includes rolled curved gutting to mirror and hug the contours of the horse shoe canopies circumference.

Canopy membrane construction will use a cream coloured Mehler Type 3 VALMEX Lacquered fabric which is pushed up with engineered steel caps to form conical elements. The frame will consist of galvanized steels, powder coated to match the existing architectural features within this award winning designed complex. Although not unique in its design, the horse shoe tensile canopy walkway has thrown up its own challenges specific to the tender requirements- which have been met head on. As a company Shade Sculpture are conscious in ensuring all challenges are thoroughly explored before surpassing expectations with our innovative solutions.

Tensile Canopy Installation

The multi-million pound complex enhancements to Loftus Way will be nearing completion at the end of November. The stunning architectural and construction works being currently carried out further elevate the complex in not only its flexibility but it offerings to its residents and visitors alike.

With engineering drawings currently underway, installation for foundations and frame work is scheduled to commence at the end of November, coinciding with the contractor’s completion of exterior works. Membrane canopy installation is thereafter scheduled for the first week of December – Just in time for Christmas (Sorry to bring up the holidays so soon after summer has ended).
